Porteg is a boutique consultancy specialising in digital trading transformation and governance, risk and compliance for energy trading firms across Europe.
We work at the point where strategy meets operational reality — across two core disciplines: digital trading transformation and governance, risk and compliance. We bring the breadth to see the whole trading operation and the depth to deliver any part of it. Our work spans algorithmic trading implementation, MiFID II and REMIT II compliance, risk and governance frameworks, market access strategy, and business development.
What distinguishes Porteg is the combination of strategic advisory and hands-on delivery — by people who have been inside trading operations and know where change delivery fails. We translate across departments and regulatory frameworks into tangible deliverables that enable trading rather than constrain it.
How We Work
We work in small, senior teams assembled around each engagement based on what the client actually needs. No generic frameworks adapted from financial services. Every engagement is led by someone who has been inside trading operations.
Our network of senior specialists spans trading, risk, compliance, business analysis and technology. Depending on the scope of the engagement we bring in the right combination of expertise — a senior trader, a business analyst, a developer, a governance specialist — working as one team with the client.
We also deliver governance, risk and compliance frameworks for financial institutions and energy firms where the regulatory environment has outpaced the control framework.

Background
Porteg was founded in 2018 by Martijn Portegijs, Managing Partner, following senior roles at Optiver (operational, credit risk and business implementaiton in high-frequency trading and options market making) and Vattenfall Energy Trading (leading operational risk, performance and governance across a multi-country trading operation).
Since 2018 Porteg has delivered engagements at major European energy trading firms across digital trading transformation, algorithmic trading governance, market access strategy, governance risk and compliance frameworks, MiFID II and REMIT II regulatory compliance, and GRC system implementation at scale across multi-jurisdictional organisationsand financial institutions.
Porteg is based in Amsterdam and operates across European energy markets.
